On behalf of all of us here at Tropic Sun we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a super New Year. 2009 has been very successful for the company having toured shows in and out of the region, the state and internationally.
We have forged strong links with our sister city in Iwaki (Japan) thanks to the Townsville and Iwaki Sister City Committees and our very supportive local council. Thank you to our incredible audiences, supporters and sponsors without whom we could not exist.
Funding is getting more difficult to secure and we need to make sure that we keep this company alive by always raising the bar and keeping abreast of the current industry trends. We were unsuccessful in our application for annual funding in 2010 to Arts Queensland, but our meetings with them since have been very positive and we are taking the necessary steps to make our position within the sector stronger.
Since the passing of Jean-Pierre and the loss of triennial funding from Arts QLD we have not had a chance to really focus on the direction of the company. So we will be a little bit quieter in 2010 consulting with a variety of industry professionals to consolidate our values and how we can best service our community and our artists for the future.
We do have a very exciting 2010 program underway and we look forward to launching it in March next year. A sneak peek is that Three Blokes and Their Barbies was short listed for the Arts Queensland touring fund menu for 2010 and has been selected to tour to Western Australia by Shows on the GO.
Have a great holiday and see you in 2010!
