Tropic Sun Theatre Townsville

"The company takes audiences on a journey that challenges the expectations of regional
Australian theatre, by creating a visual, sonic theatre, that embraces "now" media.
Along the way we discover, employ and train regional arts professionals."

Oedipus

"I thought your production of Oedipus was really impressive. The combination of the classical and the modern was intriguing, and for me to say that is really something because I tend to be a boring old purist.

I had never seen a Greek Tragedy before, and found your version rivetting. When you think how good politicians are at feathering their own nests and sending former premiers off to California on fat salaries on virtually fictitious jobs, it is amazing that they can't find a reasonable number of dollars to support really good theatre. Townsville would be a poorer place without Tropic Sun"

3 Blokes & Their Barbies

"True Aussie Blokes. Bit sexy too. Whay can yas do wit those tongs? Well done. Complete success. Ya's all!!"
Simon M.

"Fabulous - Funny, well put together. Thank you xxxx"
Deb W.

"Fantastic - very funny gave me facial spasms. Fabulous actors, will see you again thanks for a lovely night."
Thet R.

"Directed by Karen Gibb, this is a hilarious exploration of the pastime that is barbecuing, an inside look at Aussie men burning meat on a grill while espousing backyard wisdom.

For these blokes, beer is the answer to the meaning of life and the love of a good woman will never compare to a Sunday spent fishing in the tinnie.

It’s a ripping good time and a great way for newcomers to test out Townsville’s arts scene.

Cast Jeremy Cheetham, Ron Pulman and Mark Reed sport some of the best mullets in Townsville for this production.

The camaraderie between the three actors shines through as they bounce off each other, singing and dancing across the stage in pluggers and flannelette shirts."

Thank You Tropic Sun

"Dear Jean-Pierre and Lorna,
I'd like to thank you both for taking me on board for work experience. I have taken a lot of notice of what goes on in the administration area of theatre; and I've learned that theatre is not just costumes, lights and performance.

I now have a greater appreciation for theatre and the business and people behind it.

This week has helped me to determine what I would like to study towards in the future. You have both given me advice on how I can get to where I hope I end up, advice which is greatly appreciated."
Denika W.

"Dear Lorna,
I just wanted to send my congratulations to you and everyone at Tropic Sun for your award the other night at Riverway.

I was very pleased for Tropic Sun.

The '3 Blokes' sketch went well. The boys did a wonderful job, as always"

Cake

"Please pass on my congratulations to the cast crew, lighting designer, writer, designer and director. Another great JUTE/ Tropic Sun production. Susan, Karen and Madonna were amazing on stage. Incredible energy, beautiful harmonies and wicked wicked humour"
Steve Mayer-Miller

"Hi, I was the winner of the Worst Cake Drama Competition and was fortunate enought to win seats to dinner and the performance of "Cake". I would like to thank Tropic Sun Theatre. We really enjoyed the evening. The performance was fabulous.

I have never witnessed dialogue delivered so rapidly and flawlessly. To present over two hours of performance with only three people doing the delivery was a real credit to the actors who performed.

The Scriptwriter is truly brillant, well done. Please continue to bring us more wonder work. Congratulations to all those who are responsible for this fabulous show.

Again, thank you for a wonderful evening and good luck for the future."
Lynette.

"To Lorna & Tropic Sun Theatre!

A massive thankyou from the staff and students at Thuringowa SHS for having us at the show, "Cake". We all enjoyed it! The students really enjoyed talking to the actors and getting a better understanding of an actors training and life.

Your staff were also very helpful and we just wanted to say... thankyou!"
Megan L.

"Though Tropic Sun Theatre's first play of the season is called Cake, one of the key props is a cake, and the audience gets to eat cake... it's not really about cake. I

n her fast-paced, witty script, playwright Kathryn Ash explores the relationships and repressed feelings of three women living in a rural Queensland town, who are consumed by the tradition of cake baking.

At first, these women seem happy living their lives through the invitation only CLCC - Country Ladies Cake Club - that is, until old Barry Baxter brings his new younger wife to town, who can't bake!
